A dangerous incident involving baby food has been discovered in Austria: rat poison was found in one of the jars of products from the Hipp company, writes Euronews.

The contaminated jar was discovered during an inspection and recall of products from Spar chain stores. There are suspicions that this is not a manufacturing error, but rather deliberate interference — possibly an attempt to blackmail the manufacturer.

The company reported that it has handed the case over to law enforcement agencies and is not providing additional comments for now. It emphasizes that consuming counterfeit products can be life-threatening.

The investigation is being conducted in Austria, but similar suspicious jars have also been found in Germany, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. Initial analyses confirmed the presence of a toxic substance. It is noted that such jars may have an unusual or unpleasant smell.

Authorities urge people to be vigilant: pay attention to damaged or already opened packaging, the absence of the characteristic pop sound when opening, and suspicious marks on the bottom of the jar — white stickers with a red circle. Such products should not be consumed.

Symptoms of poisoning may not appear immediately — sometimes after several days. These include bleeding, weakness, and paleness. If poisoning is suspected, it is necessary to urgently consult a doctor.
