Telegram channel of the local history project "Searching for Old Homiel" declared "extremist"
The project on historical research of Homiel has existed since 2015. Initially, it was a platform for coordinating volunteers who restored historical wooden decor in Homiel. Over time, it transformed into a local history community, the Belarusian Institute of Public History reports .
“The news is bad, but expected,” the authors of the local history project comment. “We will not await details of the case from the anonymous judge of the Central District of Homiel and the unknown applicant. Moreover, we will not appeal this decision. We know the cost of such decisions well.
What could the unknown initiator of the process have disliked? Our independent historical research of Homiel? The Belarusian language? Some post over the 12 years of the public page's existence? Most likely — everything combined. Don't look for meaning here.”
The Telegram channel will continue its work, new materials will appear as unique photographs are found. The format of online quizzes is currently suspended.
