Here are the car models that are being discontinued. Three are particularly missed

Stricter environmental regulations, the shift to electric drives, and changing consumer priorities have led to the discontinuation in 2025 of models that defined the face of European roads for decades. Many of them have been left without successors, writes AutoSwiat.pl.

Ford Focus: Farewell to a Legend

This is probably the most significant loss. In November 2025, Ford officially ceased production of the Focus at its plant in Saarlouis (Germany). The model, which revolutionized the compact class in 1998, is retiring after 27 years of success. Ford has decided to fully focus on electric vehicles and crossovers, leaving the niche of classic Golf-class hatchbacks and wagons vacant.

Peugeot 508: The Last of the Mohicans

No less painful for European car enthusiasts was the end of Peugeot 508 production in 2025. It was a bold and very stylish alternative to German cars like the Audi A4 or BMW 3-series. However, demand for traditional D-segment sedans and wagons in Europe is rapidly declining.

It will be partially replaced by the Peugeot 408 — a class lower, but only 10 cm shorter.

Hyundai i10: Cheap Cars Become History

This car is the most missed. Segment A in Europe is almost dead. Due to high safety and environmental requirements, producing small, cheap cars has become unprofitable. The Hyundai i10 — one of the last quality urban microcars — is leaving the market in 2025. Its place in the lineup is taken by the electric Hyundai Inster, but it costs significantly more than its petrol predecessor.

In addition to the aforementioned trio, the European market said goodbye to several other iconic models in 2025.

Kia Ceed

The Ceed was the first Kia designed specifically for Europe. The name itself is a reference to the car's European identity. After 2018, the brand explained the meaning of the name as Community of Europe, with European Design. In 2025, Kia began phasing out the classic Ceed in hatchback and wagon versions: the model is leaving the market and making way for the Kia K4, which is set to become the brand's new «main compact» in Europe.

Meanwhile, the XCeed version remains in the lineup and, according to reports, will receive an update in 2026, which may extend its life cycle. Nevertheless, the era of the Ceed as a classic European hatchback is coming to an end.

Audi A1

Audi management has officially confirmed: there will be no more small models. The Audi A1 concluded its journey in 2025. The company decided to focus on more expensive and profitable segments.

Now the cheapest Audi will be the Q2 crossover or the A3 hatchback, and fans of compact premium cars will have to look for alternatives from other brands.

Volvo V90

Volvo has always been associated with large, safe wagons. But now the Swedish brand is rapidly transforming into a manufacturer of electric crossovers. Production of the flagship V90 wagon was halted in October 2025. This is a painful blow to brand fans: the line of large Volvos, which began 50 years ago with the 265 model, may be cut off forever.

Mazda MX-30

In 2025, the Mazda MX-30 crossover left the European market. Along with it, a unique technology also departed — the Wankel rotary engine, which had only recently returned in the R-EV version after a long break.

Production of the MX-30 model ended at the turn of 2024 and 2025, and although Mazda promises to use the rotary engine in the future, this unusual car currently remains without a direct successor.

Toyota Highlander

The large seven-seater SUV from Toyota was an attempt to introduce American values on European soil. However, in Europe, the Highlander faced fierce competition and environmental requirements. In 2025, the model left European showrooms. The role of the brand's flagship will now be taken by the new Land Cruiser 250.
