Around 10 AM on August 27, a passenger car exploded on Kolpinskaya Highway near St. Petersburg. According to preliminary information, an improvised explosive device detonated in the car at the moment it was starting to drive away from the house.
Inside the car were a Russian military pilot with the rank of lieutenant colonel and his wife.
As a result of the powerful explosion, the serviceman died on the spot — as "Fontanka" writes, his legs were torn off. His wife, with severe injuries, was urgently hospitalized. The blast wave also damaged cars parked nearby.
The name of the deceased pilot is not yet known. It is reported that he was 53 years old.
