Russia and US are negotiating about an investor for Nord Stream
High-ranking representatives from Russia and the US held talks on attracting an American investor to the Nord Stream gas pipelines. This was reported by Reuters, citing sources.
The talks involved Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of Russia for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and Head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of the American leader.
Two Reuters interlocutors stated that it was unclear to what extent the "Nord Stream" topic was discussed. However, they noted that it remains "on the agenda."
The idea of attracting an American investor to "Nord Streams" was already raised in 2024. This idea was put forward by Steven Lynch, who had been involved in business in Russia for 20 years. He approached the US government asking for a license to bid if the "Nord Stream 2" gas pipeline were put up for auction, The Wall Street Journal wrote.
Lynch viewed this deal as "leverage over Russia" in peace negotiations. "The bottom line is: this is a unique opportunity for America and Europe to control Europe's energy supply until the end of the fossil fuel era," Lynch said.
