Vance began to distance himself from Trump after the Republican election defeat and is promoting his own brand with an eye on 2028
After the Republican defeat in the midterm elections, US Vice President JD Vance called for an end to the war with Iran, addressing prices, and reviewing relations with Israel. Thus he begins to formulate his own political agenda for the post-Trump era, writes Reuters.

Vance began to change his rhetoric towards the end of the election campaign. Reuters analyzed his speeches from September and noted: the Vice President almost stopped justifying Republican support with Trump's achievements. Instead, he spoke about his own priorities — economic interests, restraint in foreign policy, and public safety.
Vance largely avoided the war with Iran and deportations, which had become key directions of Trump's policy. He also rarely mentioned the name of the US President.
According to two Reuters interlocutors, this change was deliberate. Vance and his advisors believed that he should focus on topics where he could act as an independent and convincing politician.
After the November 3 elections, in which Republicans lost control of Congress, Vance went further. In a social media post, he named the war with Iran as the reason for the party's defeat and outlined proposals for its renewal.
The Vice President called for a quick end to the conflict, to focus on the cost of living, re-evaluate foreign ties, and significantly review US relations with Israel. This was the first time he openly advocated for ending the war.
Trump, conversely, continues to defend it. Although he admitted that expensive gasoline due to the war affected the election outcome, he told reporters: «I wouldn't have done anything differently».
Vance's position was supported by Donald Trump Jr. and some conservative allies. The President himself said he understood the Vice President's view on the election results.
42-year-old Vance has not yet announced his participation in the 2028 presidential elections. Trump has also not endorsed him or any other potential successor. But Vance is already considered one of the main potential contenders.
However, Vance's own results are also not without question. Republicans lost in the states where he campaigned.
Vance's main task now is to retain the support of the Trump electorate and simultaneously attract voters dissatisfied with the current administration. At the same time, he does not yet have his own nationwide political machine comparable to Trump's. Democrats, however, will link him, like any other Republican candidate, to Trump's political legacy.
