In the USA, the dispute over customs duties, introduced by President Donald Trump in his last year, is escalating. Following the decision of the Supreme Court, which declared most of these duties illegal, the major logistics company FedEx filed a lawsuit against the US government. This is the first lawsuit from a major American company since the mentioned decision, writes Bild.

FedEx demands the return of all customs duties paid for imported goods, amounting to billions of dollars. The lawsuit is filed against the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and is being heard in the U.S. Court of International Trade.

The court has not yet determined what to do with the funds already collected, although it recognized that the president did not have the right to independently impose duties under the emergency law — this, according to the decision, is the exclusive competence of Congress. In total, importers have already paid more than $130 billion in punitive tariffs.

Following the decision of the Supreme Court, customs announced the cessation of collecting the relevant fees. In response, Trump announced additional 10%, and later 15% duties for importers worldwide, but this decision has not yet been officially formalized. In response to these events, the European Union froze the trade agreement with the United States signed in the summer of 2025.
