Bernd Lange, head of the European Parliament's Committee on International Trade, stated that the consequences of the US Supreme Court's decision cannot be ignored. In his opinion, it is impossible to continue working as if nothing has happened. According to him, the situation has become more uncertain, which contradicts the principles of stability and predictability that they sought to achieve within the framework of the agreement.
Work on the approval of the agreement has been suspended until there is more clarity and legal certainty in trade relations between the EU and the US. The planned vote has been postponed, and further steps will be reviewed in the near future.
On February 20, the US Supreme Court declared illegal the large-scale global tariffs previously introduced by US President Donald Trump. In response, the European Commission demanded full clarity from the American administration regarding future trade policy after this decision.
