Woman believed in a non-existent letter and handed over all her savings and inheritance to fraudsters

A 54-year-old woman was contacted via messenger by alleged employees of "Belposhta" (Belarusian Post) who informed her about a registered letter addressed to her from the tax inspectorate. To speed up its receipt, the woman was convinced to provide a code from an SMS.

The Minsk resident provided the code, after which she received a call from an alleged employee of the Ministry of Communications who informed her that she had previously spoken with fraudsters who were carrying out illegal financial operations in her name.

Subsequently, she was contacted by fake law enforcement officers and alleged employees of the National Bank who, threatening criminal prosecution, convinced the woman to declare her savings.

The woman handed over 65 thousand dollars and more than 7 thousand euros to a courier, whom she met at a predetermined location.

Part of this money consisted of her personal savings, and part was inherited from her father.

When they stopped contacting her, the woman realized she had become a victim of fraudsters and reported it to the police.
