The wooden house in Rahačoŭ, where the classic of Belarusian literature Vladimir Karatkevich used to visit, stands abandoned.
Belarusian Yuliya, who recently visited there, was struck by how neglected the house was.
“How can this be?! We should preserve such precious heritage, but in reality, the house where the writer lived and created has fallen into such disrepair!” — she expressed her indignation on Instagram.
“The house itself was built by Vladimir Karatkevich's grandfather in 1914!
A separate room was set aside for Vladimir in it, where he often sat late into the night and worked. His favorite couch has been preserved in the interior, and even the wallpaper dated from those times. Karatkevich himself admitted: nowhere did he write as well as here, in Rahačoŭ, behind the "two famous windows overlooking the garden".
It was in Rahačoŭ that his key works were created or conceived. Here he began writing his famous novel 'The Ears of Corn Beneath Your Sickle'.
Today, looking at this house, which is gradually decaying, it's hard to believe that it was the center of the creative world of the great Belarusian writer. Local residents have been trying for many years to preserve this heritage and dream of opening a Karatkevich house-museum here.”
