Starting September 1, the entry procedure into school buildings in Belarus will change.

Employees and workers of the Security Department will receive the right to conduct a selective search of the hand luggage of everyone they deem necessary, including minors. At the same time, the presence of parents during a child's inspection is no longer required.

Aliaksandr Syakh, First Deputy Head of the Moscow District Security Department of the capital, Lieutenant Colonel of the Police, spoke about the new rules on "Radio Minsk".

He reported that not only schoolchildren but also everyone entering an educational institution can be searched: parents, other visitors, school staff.

"No category of citizens is exempt from conducting search measures and preventing the carrying of prohibited items into educational institutions," Syakh stated.

A selective search, according to him, will not be groundless. The reason for checking a student could be their behavior or information received from teachers.

"We can talk about such a concept as profiling, where we identify minors based on their behavioral characteristics to determine if they might have any prohibited items or intentions to commit unlawful acts," he said.

However, to a greater extent, according to him, security will rely on information received from teachers and class supervisors, who know the characteristics of their students.

When searching a minor, a representative of the teaching staff must be present. Parents, however, do not need to be present.

The new rules are related to Council of Ministers Resolution No. 307 "On the implementation of security activities," adopted on June 19, 2026. According to the security representative, this document canceled previous regulatory acts and introduced new powers for security employees and workers.

Lists of items prohibited from being carried into educational institutions must also be posted at security posts in schools. These include firearms, items resembling them, ammunition, explosives, cold weapons, and other items that can be used to inflict bodily harm.

If a prohibited item is found with a minor during a check, it will be handed over to a representative of the educational institution in the presence of a teacher. Further decisions, including the question of informing parents, will be made by the school administration.

The representative of the Security Department assured that the innovations should not be perceived as a manifestation of distrust towards children or school visitors.

"I am confident that we will get used to what is happening anyway and will perceive it as the norm," the police officer said.

«Я ўпэўнены, што мы ў любым выпадку прызвычаімся да таго, што адбываецца, і будзем успрымаць гэта як норму» - вось гэта самае страшнае, бо хутчэй за ўсё так і будзе...
