Russia will continue to demonstrate its strength in strategic armaments to "cool down hot heads" in the West, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, commenting on the 'Sarmat' missile system tests that took place earlier this week, writes The Moscow Times.
«We must confidently, calmly, firmly, and responsibly demonstrate our own capabilities to cool down 'hot heads,' so to speak, of which there are many, especially along the perimeter of our western borders, who are playing with various kinds of 'umbrella' concepts,» — said Sergei Ryabkov.
This refers to the 'nuclear umbrella' strategy in Europe, which the US has provided since 1954, protecting the continent's countries from possible aggression by neighbors.
According to Ryabkov, Russia is doing everything in the security sphere to ensure that its citizens «are confident that nothing threatens them.»
«And so that no one with inflamed brains, dreaming of victory over great Russia, should think that now is the moment to try their strength. They will get it. No umbrellas will save them,» — stated the Deputy Head of the Foreign Ministry.
Earlier, on May 12, the commander of Russia's Strategic Missile Forces, Sergei Karakaev, informed Russian President Vladimir Putin about the successful launch of 'Sarmat,' after which he once again promised to put the missiles on combat duty. However, contrary to expectations, there was no reaction from Western leaders.
The Russian leadership at various levels made many verbal efforts to convince the West that they had achieved a grand breakthrough. Putin called the missile, which has been under development since 2013, «the most powerful in the world,» Deputy Head of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev «congratulated» «Western friends» on the launch, and Russian TV propaganda lauded 'Sarmat' in news broadcasts for over a day. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow had informed the U.S. and other countries about the 'Sarmat' tests. But, despite these and other PR moves, neither US President Donald Trump, nor European leaders, nor representatives of governments or defense ministries of Western countries honored the missile with their comments.
Ryabkov stated in response that «they do not want to advertise [the missile], but 'Sarmat' does not need advertising,» calling the lack of reaction in the West «quasi-indifference.»
«We did not expect, do not expect, and will never expect any reaction from our Western adversaries and opponents to the testing of any of our promising systems,» — he emphasized.
