Behind bars, prisoners who have tattoos with forbidden symbols or inscriptions are forced to remove or cover them up. But not only that — the administration of the institutions has the same attitude towards tattoos with Belarusian national symbols, for example, the white-red-white flag or Pahonia.

Thus, political prisoner Ilya Dubski shared how in the Ivatsevichy colony, under threats, he removed a "Pahonia" tattoo on his shoulder — he used acid and a razor blade.
