Kaludarova noted that the ministry approached Medvedev with a request to lead the work on the textbook series, and he agreed. According to her, he participated in editing the texts, introducing amendments and suggestions, which were reflected both in the final version of the textbooks and in new educational standards and social studies programs.

Medvedev's press service claims that he worked on the textbooks for free.

The Ministry of Education notes that the social studies curriculum is being updated because society and life are changing, so the subject should be more practical and connected to history.

It is also reported that from September 1st, social studies will no longer be taught in the 8th grade in Russia — it will remain only in grades 9-11.
