Earlier, the vessel attempted to pass through the strait and enter the Gulf of Oman, but American warships were present there. As a result, the tanker turned around and returned to the area of the Strait of Hormuz.
This vessel had previously been sanctioned by the United States for transporting Iranian oil and had changed its name in the past. According to vessel tracking systems, it loaded about 250,000 barrels of product at a port in the United Arab Emirates and is currently anchored off the coast of Iran.
The US imposed blockade measures in the Strait of Hormuz after unsuccessful negotiations with Iran. A large number of American warships are operating in the region, and on April 14, 8 vessels were turned back to Iranian ports.
Iran lost the ability to export its oil through the strait in the first days of the restrictions. At the same time, there are diplomatic contacts between the US, Iran, and mediators from other countries who are trying to restart negotiations.
