FIFA President wants to share World Cup rights with private investors close to Trump
FIFA President Gianni Infantino plans to attract private investors to manage the commercial rights of the World Cup, reports The Times.
According to the newspaper, the plan involves the creation of a separate company that will be responsible for the organization and commercial management of the global championship.
The investment group is to be headed by Thrive Capital, founded by Joshua Kushner — the younger brother of Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump.
It is reported that Infantino has already held consultations on this matter with individuals close to Donald Trump's administration.
The value of the deal for selling a stake in the World Cup rights is estimated at approximately 17 billion euros. At the same time, FIFA plans to retain a controlling stake and primary influence over the management of the tournament.
Infantino himself stated that the further development of global football requires a new organizational model. According to him, the commercial side of the game should operate as an independent and efficient business, which will allow for even greater expansion of football's popularity and an increase in its economic potential worldwide.
The 2026 World Cup recently took place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. In the final match, held in American New Jersey, the Spanish national team defeated Argentina 1-0 in extra time and became the new world champion.
