The house from which Russian "tourists" tried to steal millions of dollars belongs to the former executive director of Belarusbank
In Minsk's Navinki district, criminals who hoped to steal between 1.5 and 5 million dollars from a private cottage were detained with gunfire. "Belsat" identified the house in question from Ministry of Internal Affairs footage, and Belpol revealed who lives there.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus reported the arrest, with gunfire, of a group of thieves who attempted to rob a cottage in the Central district of Minsk on July 27.
One of the detainees stated in a video from the Ministry of Internal Affairs that they intended to steal between 1.5 and 5 million dollars.
The exact location was not reported. However, footage from law enforcement showed the spire of the controversial St. Elisabeth Convent and buildings on Yaroshevichskaya Street in the Navinki district. The specific house could be identified from the law enforcement footage.
Uladzimir Kubrakou, Deputy Head of the Central District Department of Internal Affairs of Minsk and son of Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Kubrakou, spoke about the operation. He stands in front of a building with recognizable features.
The background behind him is blurred, but the street and house number can be read. An electronic lock and the house fence were also shown — a "Yandex Maps" panorama reveals that such a lock is on the same house behind the minister's son. The garage of that house, with a grey BMW inside, was also shown.
Buildings on this street have not featured in investigations into corruption and real estate of officials. "Belsat" asked the organization Belpol who lives in the house.
According to data available to Belpol, five people with the same surname are registered in the house: adults Uladzimir and Yulia Miatselskaya, as well as three boys — likely their children (two with the patronymic Uladzimiravich, while the 19-year-old eldest's patronymic does not match that of the other children or Uladzimir himself).
50-year-old Uladzimir Miatselski worked as an executive director at Belarusbank since at least 2016, appearing in the media on behalf of the bank. As of the time of publication, he is not listed among the bank's management.
However, Uladzimir Miatselski has appeared in the Russian banking system as the Director of the Department for Business Development with International Clients at Promsvyazbank, responsible for Belarus and Uzbekistan.
40-year-old Yulia Miatselskaya worked at LLC "Emersis Trade" until 2019, and is subsequently listed as unemployed.
It is unknown why millions of dollars were expected to be found in the safe of this house.
