The incident occurred on May 4 on Leningradskaya Street in Gomel. According to preliminary information, a 48-year-old man's power bank caught fire in his clothing pocket, as a result of which he sustained injuries.
The injured person was taken to the hospital. The circumstances of the incident are being clarified.
Power bank fires are usually associated with damage or overheating of lithium-ion batteries.
The main causes include mechanical damage (impact or fall), case deformation, moisture ingress, use of an incorrect charger, overcharging, high ambient temperature, and factory defects.
In such situations, a so-called thermal runaway can occur: the temperature inside the battery sharply increases, flammable gases are released, and as a result, the device can catch fire or even explode.
