The prosecution is demanding the former head of state be sentenced to prison in the case of Libyan financing for his 2007 election campaign, French media report.

The prosecution also demanded a fine of 300,000 euros for Sarkozy and a five-year ban from holding public office. The ex-president himself denies any involvement in illegal financing.
Should an appellate court issue a guilty verdict on November 30, Sarkozy will retain the right to appeal the decision to the Court of Cassation.
Last autumn, Sarkozy was already sentenced to five years (part of which was suspended) for criminal conspiracy and illegal financing of his 2007 campaign with Libyan money; he spent 20 days in prison and shared his impressions of being in a cell by writing a book.
“There’s nothing to see and nothing to do in prison. I forget about the silence, it’s not there. Unfortunately, the noise there is constant,” Sarkozy complained in the book.
