To overtake Sabalenka in the ranking of the world's best female tennis players, Rybakina needed to perform better than Sabalenka at the tournament. But yesterday, Elena sensationally lost to Ukraine's Yulia Starodubtseva (6:3, 1:6, 6:7) already in the second round.
Aryna will play against Frenchwoman Elise Jacquemot today in the third round (starting at 16:30).
Last year, Sabalenka reached the Roland Garros final, where she lost to American Coco Gauff.
The Belarusian holds the top spot in world tennis since October 19, 2024.
