There's a strange pedestrian crossing with a traffic light in Minsk that leads to a dead end. Why?
A photo of a small pedestrian crossing with a traffic light in the capital's Dambroŭka residential area went viral online. The "Minsk-Novosti" agency found out what caused surprise among internet users.

Formally, there's nothing unusual about the pedestrian crossing on one side of the intersection of Aladavy and Chyčuryna streets: the road markings and traffic light are the same as most others in Minsk.
However, the intersection itself in this part is a dead end and resembles a "pocket" or a parking space. The regulating devices there look truly strange.
The specialized installation and operation enterprise of the Minsk City Executive Committee explained that the road sign and markings were installed in accordance with the approved traffic management project.
"This section was envisioned in 2013 as an access road to a smart parking lot. Subsequently, the project implementation stopped — the object was demolished, and access to it was closed and restricted by a curbstone," specialists said. "Currently, a dead-end section of the road has been formed there, while the previously applied markings and installed road signs have been preserved in accordance with the design solutions."
At the end of last year, by the way, a photograph with a similar intersection appeared online at the entrance to Novaja Baravaja. Unlike this intersection, there the road ends at the entrance gate of a private house.
