Trump and Zelensky discussed this topic during their meeting in Washington on Tuesday

US President Donald Trump said in a telephone interview with the Financial Times on Thursday that he was "not sure" whether he would allow Ukraine to produce missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft systems. "We are looking into this issue," writes the BBC.
The promise to provide a license for the production of Patriot missiles was made in early July during Trump's meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Turkey.
Trump and Zelensky also discussed this topic during their meeting in Washington on Tuesday, the Ukrainian president reported. For him, Patriot ammunition is critically important and necessary to repel intensified Russian ballistic missile strikes.
"This is really exceptional weaponry, and we need to be a little more careful about who we issue licenses to. In fact, we don't issue licenses for such equipment," Trump told the Financial Times.
Zelensky called his latest meeting with the US president "good" and reported that they discussed "the production of Patriot anti-aircraft missiles and several other ideas." According to the President of Ukraine, Trump "accepted the proposal to provide us with licenses."
Patriot systems are vital for intercepting Russian ballistic missiles aimed at Kyiv and other cities. Therefore, convincing Trump to consider allowing Kyiv to produce these missiles became a significant achievement for Zelensky, the publication notes.
Trump also told the Financial Times that his special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, would visit Ukraine in the coming days, confirming information from the publication's sources. This will be their first visit to Kyiv after several meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
"Simply put, we want the war in Ukraine with Russia to end," said the American president. "I don't need missiles. We need peace."
