12 Police Officers Injured on Second Night of Riots in Northern Ireland

Riots in Northern Ireland, which erupted after an attack by a Sudanese national on a man in Belfast, continued for a second consecutive night. Police used water cannons to disperse the crowd, which threw various objects, including Molotov cocktails, at law enforcement officers, writes the BBC.

During the riots, 12 police officers were injured, and a total of 16 people have already been arrested.

Footage taken at a roundabout in the Sandown Road area, northwest of Belfast, shows protesters dressed in black and wearing masks smashing up a driveway near a private house, using a sledgehammer to break off pieces of paving slabs and throwing them at police officers.

A large Department for Infrastructure vehicle was also seen on fire, as were several burning rubbish bins.

Protests also took place in other parts of Northern Ireland, but they were mostly peaceful.

Wednesday's unrest did not reach the scale of the clashes that occurred on Tuesday, which forced people to leave their homes.

The clashes began on Tuesday after Hadi Aladid, a Sudanese national who had been granted asylum in the UK, attacked passers-by with a knife in Belfast the day before. As a result, one person lost an eye and sustained multiple injuries to their face and back.

The attacker was apprehended by eyewitnesses. On Wednesday, he was charged with attempted murder at the Magistrates' Court and remanded in custody. The next court hearing is scheduled for July 8.

Гэта не беспарадкі, а "амаль мірныя пратэсты".
