Belarusian Radio stopped broadcasting Catholic Mass without warning

For three weeks now, the First National Channel of Belarusian state radio has not been broadcasting the Holy Mass from the Minsk Archcathedral. Previously, such a broadcast took place every Sunday at 8:15 AM, writes Katolik.life.

Mass broadcast on Belarusian Radio suspended — why this is a problem

This was reported by believers on social networks last Sunday – according to them, there had been no broadcast for two weeks already. And indeed, on Sunday, July 12, the Mass was not aired again on the radio; instead, classical music was played.

This is confirmed by information on the radio's website, which lists everything that was on air minute by minute. In the program schedule, "Catholic Sermon" was listed at 8:15 AM, but in fact, "Thematic Segment" was broadcast.

One of the faithful explained why the radio broadcast of Mass is very important, while other believers tried to find out what happened and whether to expect the broadcast to resume.

According to a resident of a small town, she has a bedridden relative who listens to the radio and has been praying for many years thanks to the broadcast of Holy Mass. Now she is experiencing great stress because she has not been able to join the service for three weeks.

This case is not unique. Many elderly believers do not have the opportunity to regularly attend Mass in church, so they join in prayer remotely using the radio. Video broadcasts are conducted online from the Minsk Archcathedral and other churches in Belarus, but again, many elderly people do not have gadgets or internet access. Moreover, the radio broadcast of Mass has important evangelistic significance.

Meanwhile, the Orthodox program "Spiritual Word" is still broadcast on the radio, but the Catholic program is not.

As believers found out, the parish of the Archcathedral church had no information that the Mass broadcast was not being carried out. Parishioners observed how, for the sake of the broadcast, the service at 8:15 AM was conducted literally by stopwatch – specifically to fit into the time allotted on the radio.

Thus, the Mass continued to be celebrated all this time. It turns out that the parish was not warned that the broadcast had been stopped.

In the radio program for the current week, "Catholic Sermon" is again listed for Sunday at 8:15 AM. Believers hope that this time the Mass will be broadcast and that the reasons for the suspension were technical.

The Catholic Mass has been broadcast for the last five years, after the program resumed in 2021 when Kazimierz Wielikoselec, then Apostolic Administrator of the Minsk-Mogilev Archdiocese, appealed to the authorities and the leadership of Belteleradiocompany.

А на гэтым радыё ці засталася беларуская мова?
Ці ўжо там ўсе па руцку. Як і загадана акупантамі.
