Krystsina Tsimanouskaya talked about Nedasekau, who can't forget her, and working for "Belsat" in Belarusian

Recently, athlete Maksim Nedasekau, known among other things for his active support of Lukashenka's regime, gave an interview to propagandist Marat Markau — and there mentioned runner Krystsina Tsimanouskaya, who has been living in Poland for five years now. On this occasion, "Tribuna" spoke with Tsimanouskaya, and also asked her about her work on the "Belsat" TV channel, where the athlete has recently been hosting a sports segment in Belarusian.

During the broadcast with Marat Markau, Nedasekau publicly recounted for the umpteenth time a story that allegedly happened during their joint studies at the Republican Olympic Reserve College. According to the jumper's recollections, Tsimanouskaya supposedly then met the standard for Master of Sports (most only had the first rank), after which she said that everyone below Candidate for Master had no right to look at her. He claimed that even then she "put on a crown."

— You've probably already heard what Nedasekau said about you. What do you think about it?

— Honestly, I didn't even know about it until friends and acquaintances started asking me. And that probably best shows how indifferent I am to it. I have enough of my own tasks and goals to waste time on such things.

I usually don't comment on made-up stories from the past. But it's always interesting to watch how people recall "youth" when they can no longer say anything substantial. Stories like "it seemed to me once" are a weak argument. As for the "crown" — that's subjective. But statements about the war, which, as I saw, also came from Nedasekau, like he's surprised why Ukrainian athletes don't talk, — that's a fact. And before wondering why they don't talk to you, it's worth recalling not someone else's words from ten years ago, but your own — quite recent ones. How you spoke about the war.

Sometimes the problem is not with those around you, but with the inability to connect your own words with their consequences. Because respect is lost not through someone's "crown," but through a lack of understanding of where the boundaries lie. Sometimes it's enough to just re-read what you said in 2022. Memory is a useful function. As is logic. But, it seems, not everyone has it in their profile.

— Why do you think he mentioned you again, and in such a way?

— Perhaps it's because I continue to compete on the international arena and show results. In that case, you involuntarily start appearing more often in the public eye. And then everyone deals with it in their own way. Nedasekau decided to remember me in that context.

— And in general, did such a story, which he recalls, ever happen?

— No, of course not. This is a story from the category of "it seemed to me once." The problem with such stories is that they don't require any proof — you can say whatever you want. The only question is why a person does it.

— Why does Nedasekau have such "uneven" feelings towards you? In 2021, when you were being deported from Japan, he wanted you to be punished.

— Well, back then he said that because he's a Lukashenka supporter. What else is there to add? I can't even imagine why he pays so much attention to me.

— He recalls what you supposedly were like at the Republican Olympic Reserve College. What was he like?

— I can't answer, because I didn't communicate with him. I wouldn't characterize him either as an athlete or as a person. And in general, I don't want to develop this topic, because it's already akin to squabbling in a sandbox — who stole whose shovel.

— Now you also work for "Belsat," telling people how to exercise correctly. How did this cooperation begin?

— I met representatives of the TV channel when I gave them an interview before my winter trip to America. Then, during the conversation, the idea came up that it would be interesting to do a segment about running. The editor said she liked my videos on Instagram, and that it could be adapted to the channel's format. I supported this idea, and we agreed to return to it later. When I returned to Poland, we simply implemented what we had already discussed.

I joined "Belsat" because, as an athlete, I have something to offer people. It's an opportunity to share experience, show how to train correctly, how to prepare, how to work on oneself. For me, it's not just a "segment," but a way to bring real benefit through sport and inspire people to move and take care of themselves.

— Was the language for the segment discussed?

— Yes, it was discussed, because the channel is Belarusian-speaking. I had the option to host in Russian, but choosing Belarusian was my decision.

It's important to me what values I transmit, including through language. Belarusian is part of my identity, and I want to develop it, not ignore it. Therefore, in the program, I speak Belarusian, and on my blog — in Russian, because I have a different audience there and I chose a single language for everyone. But at the same time, I received a lot of positive feedback for hosting the segment in Belarusian.

I prepare for each episode, including linguistically. It's important to me that everything sounds natural and clear. How do I prepare? First of all, of course, I read the script. I try to memorize it, but often peek during filming. Of course, I read the voice-over part from my phone — the one where only my voice is heard. During filming, the editor sometimes corrects my pronunciation and stresses — I can still make mistakes. Polish accent and Polish words often slip through. But overall, hosting the segment in Belarusian is quite comfortable and easy for me.

We plan to work with "Belsat" all summer, and then we'll see. If the format resonates, I think it could become a longer story.

— And let's finish with sports. What are your upcoming competitions?

— On July 25th and 26th, the Polish Athletics Championships will take place in Białystok, I'm running 100 and 200 meters. And I really ask for the support of both Belarusians and Poles. I really want to meet the qualifying standard to get to the European Championships. So support is definitely needed.
