Nedasekau: "I Don't Have an Ego. But Tsimaunouskaya Had One Back in College"
In an interview with Minister of Culture Marat Markau, Tokyo Olympic Games bronze medalist Maksim Nedasekau recalled his student days at the Republican College of Olympic Reserve and stated that Krystsina Tsimaunouskaya allegedly treated other athletes with disdain even back then.
Maksim Nedasekau is a bronze medalist of the Tokyo Olympic Games and national record holder in high jump — 2.37 meters. After the events of 2020, he openly supported Alyaksandr Lukashenka, signed a pro-government letter of athletes, and after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he spoke out in support of the official Minsk position.
In a new interview with propagandist Marat Markau, the athlete sharply criticized Belarusian sprinter Krystsina Tsimaunouskaya, who now competes for the Polish national team.
During the interview, Markau reminded Nedasekau of his earlier words that as a child, he used to unload cement bags to earn money. The propagandist asked if his attitude "towards money and stability" had changed after receiving an Olympic medal and status.
To this, Nedasekau replied that nothing had changed.
"I can still go help friends at a construction site, carry something, do something. It makes absolutely no difference to me."
"So, no crown (ego)?" — asked Markau. This question prompted Nedasekau to an unexpected comparison.
"None at all. I don't like such people. We had a girl with a crown (ego) in athletics. That's Krystsina Tsimaunouskaya. She had that crown even when she was little.
We studied at the Republican College of Olympic Reserve. When we came to training, she had already met the Master of Sports standard. I don't know how old she was. I had the first adult category. Others also had the first adult category. And she said something like: "Everyone who is below a Candidate for Master of Sports has no right to look at me." She was perhaps 17 years old then."
"In other words, commoners," — Markau chimed in.
Nedasekau continued:
"We always said: why are you helping this person who is like this... But the management saw everything a little differently. Often, no one wants to hear us. Even though we say obvious, the simplest things that need attention."
"Well, yes, you are right," — Markau replied uncertainly, lost in thought.
