Former aide to Zhirinovsky killed in the war against Ukraine. His surname became a meme
Alexander Safonov, a former aide to the late leader of the LDPR, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, has been killed in the war against Ukraine, reports The Insider.

The death of Safonov was reported by former State Duma deputy from the LDPR Vasily Vlasov. According to him, Safonov died on August 28. He was 35 years old.
Vlasov said that Safonov signed a contract and went to fight in Ukraine. According to his information, he participated in the war for about four years.
Alexander Safonov became known thanks to a 2014 video in which Zhirinovsky, in a pharmacy, addressed him with the famous phrase "Safonov, pay!" This line later became a popular meme in social networks in Russia.
Vladimir Zhirinovsky died on April 6, 2022, from the consequences of coronavirus infection. In late 2021, even before the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Zhirinovsky publicly called for the bombing of Ukrainian cities and declared the possibility of war breaking out.
