The memorial was made at the journalist's own expense.

Belarusian journalist Andrei Pachobut became an honorary member of the Jan Karski Society in Lublin and unveiled a Jan Karski Memorial Stone, installed at his own expense, reports the Belarusian Service of Polish Radio.
It is located near the Oak of Remembrance, planted in 2014 for the 100th anniversary of Jan Karski's birth. During the ceremony, Andrei highlighted the importance of Jan Karski's figure – a man who sought to convey to the free world the truth about Nazi crimes and genocide in the occupied territories.
"Sometimes you tell the truth, and they don't believe you. All this, of course, is very important to me," the journalist noted.
Jan Karski (born Kozielewski, 1914-2000) participated in the defense of Poland against the Germans in 1939, was captured, and escaped from a German prisoner-of-war train. He made a secret trip to France with reports for the Polish government-in-exile, which was then in France, and took the pseudonym Karski, which he later used as his official surname. He was captured again and escaped again, working in the Propaganda and Information Bureau of the General Staff of the Home Army partisans. He secretly visited the Warsaw Ghetto, disguised as a German soldier.
He prepared a report on German crimes in Poland and the genocide of Jews. The report was submitted to the governments of the USA and Great Britain. In 1943, Jan Karski met with US President Franklin Roosevelt, to whom he spoke about the genocide of Jews. He proposed that the Allied powers issue an ultimatum to Germany that if the killings of Jews did not stop, German cities would be bombed.
After the war, he lived in the USA and was recognized by Israel as Righteous Among the Nations.
