Co-founder of UNA-UNSO and former Kremlin political prisoner Mykola Karpyuk Killed at the Front

On September 19, Ukrainian public and political figure, co-founder of the UNA-UNSO organization Mykola Karpyuk, died on the Zaporizhzhia direction.
He was born in the Rivne region, took part in the Orange Revolution and the Revolution of Dignity. In 2014, Karpyuk became deputy head of the "Right Sector" for the political block.
In March of the same year, he was detained at the Ukrainian-Russian border. In Russia, he was accused of crimes against federal troops committed during the first Chechen War. In 2016, Mykola Karpyuk was sentenced to 22.5 years in prison.
Russian human rights activists recognized the Ukrainian as a political prisoner.
On September 7, 2019, he was released as part of an exchange between Ukraine and the Russian Federation.
Mykola Karpyuk was 62 years old.
