Minsk to get more road lanes accessible only to public transport and electric cars
Minsk plans to increase the number of dedicated lanes for public transport. This was announced by Denis Livanovich, acting head of the capital's State Automobile Inspectorate, writes Times.by .
This year, on some sections of Pushkin and Zhukov avenues, the asphalt pavement was replaced, after which the traffic organization was changed. The total number of lanes remained unchanged — three in each direction, but by narrowing them and utilizing the extra width of the roadway, it was possible to allocate special lanes for public transport in both directions.
Livanovich reported that several more projects to create lanes with "A" markings are planned for this year. The State Automobile Inspectorate (GAI) primarily considers locations where asphalt replacement or surface treatment of the road is being carried out. This allows for simultaneous changes in traffic organization without additional interference with already repaired pavement.
According to him, such works will become widespread by 2027, as the main campaign for repairing the capital's roads in 2026 has already been completed. The GAI notes that the creation of new lanes planned for this year has already been accomplished.
Together with the city carrier and transport operator, other sections are also being analyzed where dedicated lanes can be created without significant hindrance to the general traffic flow. The goal is to increase the speed of public transport and improve its operational efficiency.
On "A" lanes in Minsk, buses and trolleybuses operating on regular routes, as well as electric vehicles, are allowed to travel. They are closed to cars with internal combustion engines, hybrids, motorcycles, trucks, and other road users. Cameras are installed on many such sections to record violations.
