This autumn, the streets of Minsk will be adorned with over 40,000 chrysanthemums. This was announced on September 21st at an operational meeting at the Minsk City Executive Committee by Alexander Yermalovich, General Director of "Minskzelenbud," as reported by "Minsk-News" agency.
The flowers will be planted in flowerbeds, vertical structures, and road median strips. According to Yermalovich, for about five years now, with the onset of cool and humid weather in Minsk, after the flowering of trailing plants ends, chrysanthemums have been planted. They are expected to delight city residents until late autumn.
By the end of the year, the capital also plans to plant over 10,000 trees and 130,000 shrubs. All these works are provided for by the annual plan for landscaping, improvement, and floral decoration of Minsk.
In parallel, the city is preparing for winter. To protect trees along major avenues and busy streets from reagents, they are planned to be wrapped in reed mats.
Another seasonal task is tree pruning. Currently, it has been carried out for 21,000 plants, with about four thousand more trees needing to be pruned.
Minsk also regularly inspects green spaces and identifies trees that are in poor condition. If the relevant conclusion confirms the need for their removal, appropriate work is carried out. From the beginning of the year to mid-September, about five thousand such trees have already been removed in the capital, and this work continues.
Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee, Vladimir Kukharev, specifically drew attention to combating the horse-chestnut leaf miner, the quality of planting material, and the selection of the most suitable locations for planting trees.
