Court Seizes Office of Viasna

The court decision was sent to the activist in prison.

Natallia Pinchuk, the wife of the Alies Bialiacki — currently imprisoned human rights defender — reported that Belarusian court stated to cease the apartments where the human rights centre Viasna was situated. She also reported that this decision will be disputed.

The court representatives said that the decision was sent to Alies Bialiacki on July 4.

Mr. Bialiacki is the founder of the banned Viasna (Spring) human rights organization, which has monitored and reported on Belarusian President Aliaksandr Lukashenka's ongoing crackdown on dissent.

In late 2011 he was sentenced to 4 1/2 years in prison on tax-evasion charges, which the European Union and United States condemned as politically motivated.
