Poland should consider developing its own nuclear weapons in light of the growing threat from Russia, stated President Karol Nawrocki in an interview with Polsat News television.
"I am a big supporter of Poland joining a nuclear project," Nawrocki said in the interview, adding that he could not say whether Poland would begin work on creating its own nuclear weapons or when that would happen.
"We are a country directly on the border of an armed conflict, and we know the attitude of the aggressive, imperialist Russian Federation towards Poland," Nawrocki added.
Nawrocki noted in the Polsat News interview that Poland should pursue the development of its own nuclear potential while adhering to all international rules.
Asked whether the US would allow Poland to move in this direction, as Warsaw is a signatory to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, Nawrocki replied: "I don't know that, but we need to act in a way that allows us to start work."
— Russia can react aggressively to anything, — stated the Polish president in response to a question about possible actions by Moscow if work on the Polish nuclear program began.
