A "Robocop" was hired in the US. A year later, it was fired because it did nothing
The robot was supposed to fight violations but showed no results.
The police department of Dublin, Ohio, USA, has fired the robot police officer DubBot K5. It had been considered a full-time employee for a year, but during that time it did not assist its colleagues in any way.
DubBot is one of Knightscope's autonomous K5 security robots. It began patrolling the Rock Cress multi-level parking garage in Dublin in July 2025. DubBot was equipped with 360-degree cameras, two-way communication capabilities, and an emergency call button.
Dublin Police Department spokeswoman Robin Gray said that the robocop was intended to deter crime, support police operations, increase the efficiency of emergency response in the city, and assist in high-traffic areas.
The robot cost the city more than $67,000. However, its patrolling did not lead to a single arrest, criminal case, or even a fine. Moreover, during its patrols, DubBot did not record a single incident that would have required police intervention.
Initially, the city planned to pay the company more than $238,000 to deploy two police robots for two years. The second robot, intended for Riverside Crossing Park, was never implemented. The company needed more time to develop the second DubBot, and the park lacked the necessary infrastructure.
In the first year of the agreement, Dublin spent $128,000 but expected to receive $60,000 in compensation from Knightscope, which would reduce the city's costs.
