The "Brest Stork House," a bird rescue center, is ceasing operations

Dmitry Avdeev, head of the bird and animal aid center "Brest Stork House," announced that the institution will be liquidated. The main reason was a problem with a land plot near Brest, writes Telegraf.news.

Part of the aviaries where birds were kept (not only white storks, but also swans, owls, buzzards, and others) was located on an adjacent plot, which was previously leased. This year, the lease term expired, and the landowners refused to extend it, as they plan to build a residential house there.

Avdeev appealed to the Brest District Executive Committee with a request to allocate additional land in a neighboring village but was refused. He was offered a plot 26 kilometers from the current location.

Such a decision did not satisfy the head of the center. He explains that he does not have official transport to travel so far daily and care for the birds. In addition, the new area is not suitable for the rehabilitation of storks, as they do not nest there. Without contact with wild birds, the socialization of young individuals is impossible.

The center was not engaged in the permanent keeping of birds, but in their rehabilitation and return to nature. It received stork chicks thrown from nests in "hungry" years, birds with injuries, or those that could not fly away for wintering on time. After recovery, they were released into the wild. Before this, the storks were ringed for accounting.

Recently, the center rescued and released an owl that was found in one of the kindergartens in a serious condition with dehydration.

Dmitry Avdeev admitted that he tried to save the project until the last moment, but circumstances proved stronger. In the near future, he plans to submit documents for the liquidation of the "Brest Stork House".

The center and its charges have repeatedly become famous on social networks. For example, a video with Yasha the stork, who begged for food instead of hunting independently and even climbed onto a car roof, garnered millions of views.
