Russian woman published a recipe for "the most delicious" Belarusian draniki on Threads. Belarusians are shocked

"Write down the proportions for the most delicious draniki, like in Belarus," — wrote user anya.tellme on Threads. Not yet knowing what thin ice she was treading on.

The author of the post claims that the recipe she published is authentic, because

"My mom brought the recipe from her sisters, who have lived in Belarus all their lives and know everything about potatoes!"

However, Belarusians were extremely surprised by the multitude of ingredients, among which, besides the always controversial flour in domestic internet disputes, there were also semolina and butter.

As a result, among more than 500 comments, there are almost no positive ones; the overwhelming majority are sharply protesting. The simple "These are not draniki" is the mildest and most balanced among them:

"Anya, I'm forced to disappoint you. Your aunts know nothing about potatoes. Semolina in draniki is a mortal sin."

"Draniki are just grated potatoes on a fine grater and salt. That's it! And these are not draniki, you've been misled."

"I'll reveal a secret. Nobody grates potatoes (for draniki) on a coarse grater in Belarus."

"I live in Belarus. Real Belarusian draniki are potatoes and salt. That's it. Of course, every family has its own recipe. Like yours, it seems, has its own. But the best, most delicious, and most popular is simply to grate potatoes, squeeze out the juice, add the settled starch from this juice (it binds and gives a crispy crust), and add salt. Fry in hot oil. That's it. No frills."

"In some places in Belarus, adding flour to draniki gets you impaled on pitchforks. I've never heard of semolina in draniki; these aren't syrniki."

"Oh dear, semolina too. Even flour is questionable here..."

"In which region of Belarus do they make such potato dumplings? Neither semolina nor butter is added to draniki... A recipe for amateurs. These are not draniki!"

"Semolina in draniki... Even the Germans in '42 weren't that furious!"

"To be honest, even I was triggered. Although I usually pass by when there's a huge argument about draniki recipes."

"Even I understood that something was wrong there. Apparently, my Belarusian roots are indignant."

"I think this is very tasty, cook it and eat it to your health. Just don't call them real Belarusian draniki. You don't even understand what you've attempted."

"What your family invented is a variation of babka or something similar. But definitely not draniki..."

мяркую, у нашых сялян і соль не заўжды была... таму сапраўдныя беларускія дранікі маглі складацца толькі з бульбы
