Belarusian designer was traveling to Georgia — but was detained with drugs on a highway near Voronezh

Yana Volkava assured that she bought ketamine for herself — and was limited to a small fine.

Belarusian designer and decorator Yana Volkava was detained on June 16, 2026, on the M-4 "Don" highway in Russia's Voronezh region.

The girl was traveling with her boyfriend to Georgia for a vacation. At a stationary post, the car was stopped, and during the search, a sachet with a light substance was found on Volkava. Expertise determined that it was 0.18 grams of ketamine.

As the Belarusian woman explained at the meeting of the Bogucharsky District Court of the Voronezh region, she bought the drug the day before in Moscow near the Otradnoye metro station — for personal use, without the intent to sell. She fully admitted her guilt.

Volkava said that she has been living in Russia for about two years with her boyfriend; both work as decorators and are registered as self-employed, paying taxes. She has a higher education in "designer" specialty, with an average monthly salary of about $1280 (her boyfriend, however, estimated her income more modestly — at $1000). At the time of her detention, her registration in Russia had already expired, and in court, she promised to arrange her migration documents.

The main thing the girl asked for was not to deport her from Russia, but to limit the punishment to a fine. As a result, that's what happened. She received a fine of about $50.
