Kruty: Workers from Uzbekistan are brought to Belarus for investment projects

According to Dmitry Kruty, during the recent negotiations between the heads of Belarus and Uzbekistan, the discussion primarily focused on the development of investment cooperation, rather than just an exchange of labor force.

The official noted that trade relations between the two countries are developing successfully. Uzbekistan, according to him, is interested in implementing projects in Belarus in the agro-industrial complex, product processing, and other sectors.

Special attention, Kruty reported, is paid to food security. As an example, he cited the production and supply of agricultural products, including potatoes. According to him, in Uzbekistan, after the early varieties season ends, there is a deficit of late varieties, so the country is interested in joint cultivation and supply projects.

For the implementation of such projects, the head of Lukashenka's administration noted, workers from Uzbekistan can be engaged. He emphasized that this refers to specialists with appropriate qualifications who will work at specific enterprises and investment sites.

The official also explained that the procedure for foreign workers to arrive in Belarus involves several stages. First, Belarusian organizations submit applications for the necessary specialists, after which candidates are screened, including through diplomatic structures.

Upon arrival, workers sign employment contracts specifying terms of payment, duties, and other guarantees. The issue of housing is resolved separately – dormitories, hotels, rental or other accommodation may be used.

If workers arrive with their families, their relatives, according to Kruty, get the opportunity for socialization: adults are helped with employment, and children with schooling in schools and kindergartens.

He also stated that the topic of Uzbek workers' arrival was, allegedly, "informationally blown out of proportion." Kruty compared the current situation with previous discussions around potential labor migration from other countries and stressed that the goal of such projects is for them to be beneficial to both Belarus and Uzbekistan.

After the relevant bilateral agreement was signed during the recent visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Belarus, the first organized group of Uzbek citizens has already arrived in Belarus. It was reported that they will work in eight districts of the Vitebsk region, as well as in Vitebsk and Novopolotsk. Most of them are planned to be used in agriculture, construction, and housing and communal services.

However, immediately after the arrival of Uzbek workers, it turned out that the conditions actually offered to them significantly differed from those declared, which caused a conflict. After that, it was possible to at least temporarily quell it by increasing wages and improving living conditions.
