The aircraft in question are JAS 39 Gripen C/D models. Deliveries are planned to begin in early 2027.
According to the Swedish side, these aircraft should strengthen Ukraine's air defense and enhance security throughout the European region. Ukrainian pilots have already had the opportunity to test the Gripen, and, as noted, rate them very highly.
Zelenskyy emphasized that the fighters will help effectively combat guided aerial bombs, as they will be supplied along with appropriate weaponry.
Additionally, the parties are discussing broader cooperation. Earlier, there was talk of a possible future delivery of a much larger number of such aircraft, as well as the establishment of Ukrainian production for their assembly.
