Muscovites supported the Belarusian conductor who had to take an exam in an empty hall of Gnessin Academy. It was a sell-out!

Belarusian Siarhei Danilkevich is studying conducting in the master's program at the Gnessin Academy (Russian Academy of Music). He announced on Instagram that he would be taking an exam in an empty hall. As a result, tickets for the concert were snapped up in a few hours.

Siarhei Danilkevich was born in the Brest region — in the city of Ivanava. The boy started studying music at the age of 6, graduating from the Ivanava Children's Art School named after Napoleon Orda.

It was there that he mastered the bayan (accordion) — Siarhei's teacher Sviatlana Zinovik called him her most talented student in 36 years of work. He had many victories in music competitions.

In the 9th grade, when the question arose — to continue studying music or to look for a more mundane profession — Siarhei chose the former. As a result, he entered the Glinka Music College.

And then he went to Moscow, where he graduated from the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music — he studied at the Department of Bayan and Accordion.

In 2022, Siarhei returned to his homeland — probably, the issue was that he had to serve in the army. The musician was immediately conscripted into the special forces — into the 5th separate special purpose brigade, located in Maryina Horka.

During his service, the young man did not abandon music — he was occasionally sent to patriotic song contests (including to Russia). He wrote a song for the VDV and SSO Day — singing about the connection between special forces and airborne troops.

Now Siarhei is once again studying at the Gnessin Academy — this time in the master's program for conducting. His diploma project defense was scheduled for May 26 at 14:30.

The specialty is creative, so the defense takes the form of a concert. But Siarhei was saddened by the fact that he had to perform in front of an empty hall — the Belarusian had no one to invite for moral support.

Less than a week before the exam, the future conductor posted a video message on Instagram:

— I will be conducting an orchestra at the Gnessin Academy. The concert is free, but I have no friends or acquaintances whom I could invite here. So, I invite you. Come, I will be very happy to see you. I hope for your support, I believe in the power of Instagram.

The video gained 520 thousand views, almost 54 thousand likes, and over 7 thousand reposts. As a result, registration had to be closed within a few hours (and the hall is designed for more than 500 seats).

Siarhei said that he received an incredible number of words of support. But he was worried until the last moment: what if a significant number of people still wouldn't come.

His fears did not materialize: the hall was sold out. Journalists also came — the Belarusian became a real star. Siarhei calls this day one of the happiest in his life.

He says that thanks to caring people, he believed in himself. And although he doesn't have his own ensemble yet, he very much hopes to find one. Siarhei promises that people will hear about him again.

If you're wondering what grade the commission ultimately gave Siarhei, we can reassure you — he received a five, the highest mark.
