Lukashenka for the first time called on Russia too to «compromise»
Alexander Lukashenka, in an interview with Al Arabiya TV channel, expressed the opinion that the tough stance of the so-called «European troika» — Great Britain, France, and Germany — towards Russia is linked to negotiation tactics ahead of possible peace talks.
Lukashenka mentioned a meeting in London of the leaders of these three countries with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, following which a joint five-point statement was adopted. According to Lukashenka, the demands voiced there are unacceptable for Russia.
«It's classic. Always at the beginning of a dialogue, if they want it — and, apparently, European states are already leaning towards this — you set the highest bar in negotiations so that you can then retreat from it», — he noted.
According to Lukashenka, such a stance could be the initial stage of a negotiation strategy. He also noted that the Russian position too was initially formulated in the harshest possible terms.
«The Russian position is also maximalist, it has been stated. But now we need to sit down at the negotiating table and bring these positions closer. And to bring the positions closer, one must compromise. If we want to end this war — both sides», — Lukashenka declared conciliatorily.
