Just a week ago, Belarusians were outraged by "halal" prickly cucumbers sold in the online store of the "Evroopt" chain. But no sooner had the previous excitement cooled down in Threads than a new one flared up – this time over eggplants, writes Blizko.by.

While the markup for the "halal" cucumbers, which were written about earlier, was only 12 kopecks, for a kilogram of "halal" eggplants you will have to pay 2.3 rubles more.

In the comments, users joke and express their indignation:
"Well, what's the markup for? For the Halal label."
"The most brazen marketing I've ever seen."
"Apparently because they weren't fertilized with pig manure."
By the way, those very prickly halal cucumbers have now disappeared from the "Edostavka" website. But instead, the same eggplants and several types of tomatoes are present.
Halal is considered to be products permitted and acceptable for consumption according to Islamic norms. Pork, predatory birds and animals, blood, and alcoholic beverages are forbidden. Plant-based food is by default halal.
