In Brest, a tiny one-room apartment is for sale, where a mother and daughter will stay to live. What's the catch?

Katsiaryna found an advertisement on "Kufar" for the sale of a one-room apartment in Brest. The apartment is located in house 4 on Maladagvardzeyskaya Street.

The house was built in 1979, the first floor, the total area of the apartment is a little less than 20 square meters, of which the living area is only about 11 square meters. Hanna, who posted the ad, set the price at 35 thousand dollars — but added in large letters that "good bargaining" is possible.

By the way, it cannot be said that it is very cheap — because in the same building, a one-room apartment of 29 square meters (not on the first floor) is being asked for 41 thousand dollars.

But Hanna's ad has one interesting nuance: it states that a woman with a child is registered in the apartment — and they will remain living there even after the property is sold.

Obviously, the new owner will not be able to live there or rent out the apartment — because there is hardly any space anyway.

The post went viral, and soon the very woman who lives in this one-room apartment with her school-aged daughter appeared in the comments. Her name is Natallia Anishchuk.

It turned out that a real family drama remained hidden behind the scenes.

Natallia's family had three children — her and two brothers. Their parents had already passed away, leaving behind an apartment. During his lifetime, the father wanted to privatize it, but did not have time because he was ill with oncology.

At that time, Natallia's older brother was already married and living separately, Natallia also had a fiancé and planned to move in with him. Therefore, they decided to waive their shares in favor of the younger brother. But they reserved a lifelong right of ownership and use of the parental apartment — the notary assured them that this was possible.

Natallia and her older brother believed that without their consent, they would never be evicted from the parental apartment: "Because who can you trust if not relatives?".

The privatization took place in 2015. Natallia claims that for two years (until 2017) she herself paid for that privatization, because her younger brother was in the army.

In 2017, the woman got married, had a child, and moved to her husband's apartment — for five years, while the woman was not living in her parental apartment, she did not pay for utilities there. In 2022, the marriage broke up, Natallia decided to return to the family nest with her daughter — but her younger brother, who had already married himself, was categorically against it.

Since his sister did not have her own real estate, he took out a loan, bought a small one-room apartment, and had Natallia evicted there through court. Now the man stated that he is not interested in paying off the loan, so he wants to sell that second apartment (Natallia is registered there and lives with her daughter): "He offered me four options: 1. He sells the apartment with me and the child in it. 2. He settles Uzbeks with me. 3. I buy the apartment from him at market price. 4. If I don't agree to one of the options, he will do something."

Commentators are horrified by the situation. They say it would have been fair to sell the parental apartment immediately and divide the money equally. But Natallia says that no one offered her such an option.

Natallia does not want to buy the one-room apartment from her brother — because for the same money plus a loan, she and her daughter could buy something more comfortable.
