Rubinau: Belarus–China Relations Reach Strategic Partnership Level
The two countries have much in common, Mr. Rubinau said.
The Chairmen of Belarus’ lower and upper parliamentary chambers met with Lu Yongxiang, the Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress, to discuss relations between the two countries.
Anatol Rubinau, the Chairman of the Council of the Republic, said that bilateral relations had reached “a level of strategic partnership,” for which he noted “warm ties” between the two heads of state should get the credit.
“We are very proud that small Belarus has successfully established friendly and brotherly relations with great China,” said Mr. Rubinau. “We are happy that China is among the mighty of the earth that shape the world`s face and future.”
Commenting on two-way trade, Mr. Rubinaw said that it had soared 100-fold to $30bn in 2011 since the establishment by Belarus and China of diplomatic relations 20 years earlier.
“Our nations have a lot of things in common,” he said. “Both the Belarusians and the Chinese have had to survive many hardships. They know what the war and devastation are. Heaven do not rain manna onto us and there are no treasures under our feet. We have to achieve everything through hard work.”
Mr. Lu said that his number one priority was to discuss an interstate agreement on the establishment of a joint commission for cooperation in high technologies, which he noted would be signed in Minsk later in the day.
Mr. Rubinau expressed confidence that the agreement would bring relations between Belarus and China to a new level. “Investment and the construction of roads is one thing. But sharing secrets in the area of high technologies is another.”
