Fish farms pay to kill cormorants as they consume much fish.
A dozens of cormorants from a colony living at a lake near Chashnicy, Belarus, were cruelly debeaked, Belarusian ornithologists report.
The incident is probable to take place on June 16.
The ornithologists found debeaked cormorant nestlings in low-ganging nests as they were easy to reach.
Cormorants consume much fish and fish farms pay to kill them. Every killed bird is estimated $3–$6. The beak of a bird is accepted as a proof.
According to Belarusian ornithologists, around 10,000 cormorants and common herons were killed in 2011. However, it is the first time the birds are killed that ruthlessly: debeaked, they are not able to feed and die slowly of starvation.
