Water supply was cut to fix sewer system clogging.
Water supply — both cold and hot — was cut in Barysau, Belarus, on August 3–4.
The water crisis lasted for around 24 hours. Initially, officials refused to explain mass media and city dwellers anything. Only after multiple requests it became known that the water cut was caused by sewer system clogging.
To clean it, repair crew decided to cut whole 150,000-people town from running water.
Commenting on the incident, town administration didn’t apologised but blamed Barysavers for the sewer emergency.
Ihar Bryla, an official, said that the clogging was caused by large objects in the sewer system which got there as several sewer manhole lids were stolen. Moreover, around 30 lids have been stolen in the town this year. Large pieces of metal and wood fell through them.
