The current technical condition of Dynama Stadium in Minsk poses a real threat to the safety and health of its visitors, Aliaksandr Jakabson, head of the State Control Committee, said on Monday during a government conference on the modernization of Belarus' largest soccer ground, BelaPAN says.
The problems are the result of bureaucratic red tape and violations of technical requirements during the modernization of the landmark stadium in the late 1990s, Jakabson said.
Because of damage done to the waterproofing system during the installation of new seats, the ceilings of the rooms under the stands leak and become covered with mold, he said.
Inspections carried out in 2001 and 2005 made the need for modernizing Dynama Stadium especially clear.
Some design requirements were violated during major renovations to the stadium's second tier in 1997, which resulted in excessive stress on bearing structures.
The technical problems and the miserable conditions at the stadium harm the reputation of the historic symbol of Belarusian soccer, Jakabson noted.
Aliaksandr Lukashenka directed during the conference that the modernization of the facility be completed before the end of 2014.
As Goals.by reports, Belarusian tycoon Jury Chyzh says that he and his company Triple may participate in the reconstruction of the stadium and invest up to $30mln.
“We may invest around $30mln in this project. The club is interested in the creation of another stadium in Minsk,” Jury Chyzh, the owner of the Dynama football club.
Built in 1934, Dynama Stadium currently seats 34,000 people.
