“It’s our first time in Minsk, we arrived three hours ago,” says Shirley Manson, leading singer for rock-band Garbage.
“We saw your national library. It blows mind! It seems crazy architects live here, but we liked it!”
At their first ever show in Belarus, Garbage presented their new album Not Your Kind Of People.
“We’re independent from labels, do not promote ourselves on TV and radio,” the musicians said.
And they can really be called one of world’s indiest bands (actual “indies” — derived from “independent”). “Being freak is right!” their motto is.
Shirley Manson tries not to lose her national identity as she is the only who wasn’t born in America.
“When we first met her, she spoke Scottish we couldn’t understand her,” says Butch Vig, band’s drummer.
“But now our fans somewhere in Glasgow can’t understand a word from our lyrics,” Manson laughs.
The tickets for the first Belarusian concert of Garbage were far from being sold out despite band’s frequently returns in the neighbouring countries.
“You have a nice blue suede shoes,” Ashley points at someone. “Just like in the song by Elvis Presley.”
Garbage left to resume their tour, though they seemed a bit tired after previous ones.
We hope that they will come back to Belarus to give one more “best show we ever visited,” as Garbage fans described it.
