Vasil Bykau and Iryna Suvorava met in the editorial office of the newspaper "Hrodzienskaya Praŭda".
In "The Long Road Home", Vasil Uladzimiravich recalls that "Iryna Mikhailauana... became the first and very demanding critic of everything I wrote. Now I am very grateful to her for that, although at times I was offended then."
Iryna Mikhailauana typed Bykau's works when he was still a little-known author — and continued to do so for many years. "The Dead Don't Hurt", "Sotnikau", "Sign of Trouble" were typed by her.
At the end of December, she was hospitalized with a hip fracture and a heart attack.
She turned 99 years old very recently — on January 13, 2026.
