The main time of the match, held in Arlington (USA), ended in a 1:1 draw.
Egypt opened the scoring in the 13th minute thanks to a goal by Emam Ashour. In the second half, the Australians restored parity after an own goal by Mohamed Hany in the 55th minute.
The teams did not score in extra time, and the fate of the match was decided in a penalty shootout. The Egyptians proved stronger here – 4:2.
Now, in the 1/8 finals, the Egyptian national team will play against the winner of the Argentina – Cape Verde pair.
